MTC Week in Review
This week...
Germain and I met with a representative from the Jackson Public School District to solidify our partnership and agreement to place ten teachers in JPS next year. The meeting was in Grenada, where the University of Mississippi has just opened a branch. Grenada is about 100 miles north of Jackson. Down the line, I'd like to have a "Jackson Teacher Corps," where all the classes would be based in Grenada. By my estimates we would need about $175,000 a year to fund 30 teachers.
Had a preliminary discussion with some people over in Southern Studies about documenting the MTC Summer School.
Had a good meeting with a P.hD student from UNC who is interested in following our science teachers over the course of one year.
Solidified the summer internships. Looks like we will have eight summer interns, which is fantastic. Four are from Amherst (which is funding the students through the Center for Community Engagement), three are from the Honors College (which is funding two internships), and one is from St. Johns College. We may still have one or two more interns if they can arrange funding through their school.
