Books
I've been meaning to post some write-ups of the books I've read over the past two months. Haven't gotten around to it, so I'll just list them with a few comments:
Two out of four stars. Written by Snoop, of "The Wire" fame (Stephen King called her the most terrifying villain to ever appear on the small screen). Couple of nice lines, including a story about why the women's prison is called "Grandma's House", after an inmate who killed her own grandmother.
One star. Was marketed as a Moneyball look at the Patriots. Instead we get a boring retread of how the Patriot's let pricey free agents walk and signed older veterans and/or hungry rookies. Nothing new. Nothing interesting. It is clear that, unlike Moneyball, Price had no access.
Four stars. Alan Moore is the greatest living author on the planet. Don't believe me? Read his piece on Iraq, written in 2003.
Three stars. Not quite as good as the first two. Lots of experimental stuff, including a new Shakespeare play and an end section in 3D. James Bond is the central villain...
Four stars. One of the few Alan Moore pieces I had not yet read (I was rereading the League graphic novels). I had been saving it for a raining day. Simply put, this is Moore's interpretation of the Whitechapel murders (Jack the Ripper). But really, this is his examination of the nature of truth, and how truth can be created by a myriad of random connections. Key quote: "I made it all up. I made it all up and it came true anyway..."
Three stars. In-depth interviews with a variety of athletes, past and present.
