The latest Mississippi Teacher Corps Annual Report is up. Highlights:
Since 1989, more than 500 MTC participants, reaching an estimated 100,000 students, have taught in critical-need school districts in Mississippi.
For 2008, MTC received 303 total applications for 26 slots. The recruiting budget was $2,000.
38% of the MTC Class of 2006 (graduated in May, 2008) are still K-12 teachers. 91% are still involved in education.
52% of the MTC Class of 2005 are still K-12 teachers. 91% are still involved in education.
84% of the MTC Class of 2004 are still K-12 teachers. 100% are still involved in education.
77% of the MTC Class of 2003 are still K-12 teachers. 89% are still involved in education.
On average, over the past four years, 85% of first-year MTC teachers have been identified as better or significantly better than traditionally-trained first-year teachers.
For 2007-2008, MTC offered one seven-week session of summer school. 114 students attended the Summer School. Fourteen classes were offered. Eighty-one students in nine classes were administered the Stanford Achievement series pre- and post-test. The average student increase for the seven weeks was 15.3%.
